The types of shackles

A shackle is a load-bearing connecting device designed to be used with a removable pin. Shackles can be used in a number of different rigging and load securement applications to connect different types of lifting slings, chain, or rope to an object or to each other.

There are two common types of shackles:

Bow Shackles

It is in the shape of an arc or a horseshoe, and the inner radius at the top of the buckle is greater than half of the inner width between the two eyelets. It provides a larger inner width and inner height, which can reduce the wear on the sling when connecting the lifting sling and the hook.

D Shackles

It is in a D shape or straight shape. The inner radius is equal to half of the inner width between the two eyelets. It is often used for connecting certain components of lifting equipment. Compared with the bow shackles, its load-bearing capacity is slightly lower, but it is more suitable for situations with limited space.

Additionally, their pins also have different types. For example, Screw pin shackle and Bolt type shackle.

Just like slings and sling hooks, shackles also have various different designs and styles. To determine the correct type of shackles suitable for your specific application, you cannot make random guesses or choose the wrong type.
